Wasted Talent
Do you ever feel like you have a talent that you just don't use like you'd like to? Every once in a while I start to feel that way. Two of my brothers and my wife were gifted with great voices and I see them using their talent every week singing in the choir or belting out a wicked aria on Playstation's SingStar. I definitely wasn't given the gift of singing. My talent is Art, but since I didn't choose a career in a field like architecture, graphic design, etc, I never seem to use my gift as much as I would like. Does anyone else ever feel that way? I often have the urge to pick up a pencil and draw, or put a paintbrush to canvas, or sculpt something out of clay but never seem to have (or make) the time to do it. I guess that's the problem - making time. I'm going to have to start making an effort to practice better time management. That way, after taking care of the priorities in my life - wife, children, work, etc, I can find the time to appease the little Michaelangelo inside of me that's dying to get out. I think I'll stop by the hobby shop on my way home today and pick up a hunk of clay. Whenever I get done carving something out of it, I'll display the result here. Maybe I'll even create a segment called Art Show Thursday.

That sounds like a great idea. Just keep it away from the kids. That stuff is a bugger to get out.
Oh Steve, I hear you.
Vox brought out the artist in me. It had be boxed up and was rotting away since the beginning of my college years. Now that that's over and I've met voxer friends, my eyes and ears have opened up to the creative underbelly of our world.
The problem with yearning to be creative is that even though the desire is there, it's hard to simply whip it out and produce something fantastic. Creativity has to be harnessed and used constantly to keep it pliable and ready for that masterpiece that's dying to be created. Sometimes I struggle with the "not good enough" mindset. But people here keep me inspired and hopeful.
Good luck, and start an Art Show Thursday group. You might grab a few members. ;)
Hops has a great point -- that exercising a talent (or seeing if you have one even) is much more about doing rather than having the end product be perfect.
Good luck! Having just started the piano last year (after never having played anything ever) -- I've really enjoyed the process of learning and growing. I don't know if I'm any good but I know its brought out a side of me that I never knew i had.
Go for it!
Go for it - buy that clay!
I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that I have a talent, but I might have an artistic flair. I do have to let the creative side out occasionally. I need some balance to my everyday, FDA-regulated world. My left-brain coworkers laugh at me because I always have to have a picture on my computer desktop, things have to be "pretty," and I'm always the one volunteering to be the photographer when needed. In other words, I hear what you're saying. I always thought I should have been an interior designer.
I'm up for Art Show Thursday. I don't know if I can participate every week but I'll be there!
Showcase some of ur work on vox after u do it. I can't wait to see it. Sometimes u just have to make time to do things for urself. Everybody needs a little time once in a while.
