This week's art is a lego sculpture. Janie and I were watching House Hunters the other day, and they showed a childless couple in their new house, and the husband was building with legos, which, I assume, was a hobby. We both agreed that that was kind of wierd since the guy didn't have children, but I did admit that building things with legos is kind of fun, even though I hardly ever do it with the kids. Janie then said, "Well, then go build me an Empire State Building". So I did. Although, I built my own version of a skyscraper. I call it the Empire Steve Building......
So it's county fair time of year again. Last year I didn't fair so well. I'm not going to win this year either, but I love the idea of people browsing through the exibits, and looking at this picture and thinking, "An adult drew this?".
Yes. Yes they did.....
Check out Janie's blog for pictures of the kids in their halloween costumes. Here are some pictures from the Harvest Party tonight - Janie and I as J.D. and Elliot from Scrubs, and some of my facepainting. I didn't include the dolphin that looked like a shark.
I drew a color version of the button drawing to enter into the fair. Alas, Southern Marylanders don't get my humor and I didn't win a ribbon. Janie and I didn't win for the photos we entered either. I discovered that next year, If I want to win for photography, I need to enter a photo that is at least 16X20". Our little 4X6"s were lost in the sea of photographs. Alex on the other hand won two first places ribbons for his lego creations, and a fourth place ribbon for a rifle he whittled out of wood. Here's the color version of the button. At least you guys like it.....
It's that time of year again. Time for the county fair. I haven't entered anything into the county fair since I was a teenager, when I think I entered in a drawing or a watercolour painting. It's probably pretty bad that I can't remember if I won or not. Last year a couple of the children entered a few things into the fair. Alex entered a pocket knife he whittled, and Ashley entered a tower she made out of legos. Poor Ashley. She was so proud of the tower she created, only to show up on fair registration day to see kids entering massive complex lego metropolises. The look on her face was priceless. She looked down at the lego tower she was holding, then looked at their huge lego castle complexes, and looked up at me, smiled, and said, "Um....yeah, I'm probably not going to win. Alex did end up winning first place for whittling. I think he was the only entrant for youth whittling, but he probably would have placed either way, as it was a very impressive whittling of a wooden pocket knife.
I've decided that this year I'm going to enter a couple of my drawings from Art Show Thursdays into the fair. One snag though. I can't decide which drawings to enter and I need your help in deciding which ones to choose. Here are the options......
I was thinking about morphing the last two pictures into one and adding the kids for a family portrait.
The first drawing is the second in a series. It may end up just being a series of two drawings, but it's a series non-the-less.
The second is this week's real art work.
