What's the current hottest restaurant in your city? Have you tried it out yet?
I was going to just answer this qotd, but I've decided to expand it and include my favorite restaurants in cities around the world. If you find yourself, or live in, one of these cities, you need to eat at these places.....
Washington D.C.
Tony Chen in Chinatown. Great Mongolian BBQ. If you've never had that before, it's a buffet of uncooked vegetables and meats that you put in a bowl and give to the chefs to season with sauces and cook. Very good.
Japan
Sagamihara - Mankin Gyoza House. This place is tied for my favorite restaurant in the whole world. I use to eat here all the time when I lived in Japan. I actually took a business trip to Japan a few years ago just so I could go back and eat at this place. It's that good. I want to take Janie to Japan sometime in the future, and part of the reason is so I can eat there again.
North Carolina
Fayetteville - Logan's Road House. I make it a point to avoid chain restaurants when I'm on travel, because I like find great local establishments. This place, however, had a great Fillet Mignon - tender and favorful. I did actually eat at another non-chain restaurant in Fayetteville, but wasn't crazy about their food. If you know of a great place to eat in Fayetteville, let me know, because I'm sure I'll be down there again at some point.
Washington State
Seattle - Pasta Freska. This place was great. No menus. The owner just comes to your table and asks what you do and don't like, then starts bringing you out random dishes.
Cafe Lago - also in Seattle. This place had really good lasagna made with their own handmade pasta.
Germany
Sembach - Zum Kochlöffel, or Wooden Spoon in English. This is the other place that's tied for my favorite restaurant. I use to eat here all the time when I lived in Germany. My go-to dish was the schnitzel with sauteed onions and garlic on top. I was able to take Janie here a couple years ago, and she was able to enjoy it's mouth watery goodness first hand.
Arizona
Sierra Vista - Daisy Mae's. This is probably the best steak house on earth. They cook the steaks over an open pit, mesquite wood fire. The building is well over a hundred years old and was first built back when the army base it sits next to was an outpost fort in the middle of indian territory.
Tucson - Mi Niditos. The best Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at.
Phoenix - Durants. Great steaks, soup, and atmosphere. Apparently the place use to be a popular hang out spot for the mob.
Italy
Somewhereville, Italy - Random Restaurant. About 8 years ago, I went on a 4 or 5 day trip to Italy with another family. I was really excited about going to Italy, because I love Italian food and couldn't wait to eat at a real Italian restaurant. The family that I went with however, didn't want to eat out - they wanted to pack lunches everywhere we went to save money. I went along with the lunch packing thing, as to be courteous to the other family, but I always regretted not eating at an Italian restaurant on that trip. Two years ago, I was able to tour Europe with Janie, and we made our way into Italy and ate at this Italian restaurant. It was delicious. The point here is not about the restaurant in the picture below, it's that if you ever find yourself in Italy, make sure you eat at an Italian restaurant.
Minnesota
Minneapolis - Murray's. Awesome steaks. That's all I remember. Sorry.
Missouri
St. Louis - Crown Candy. An old fashion candy shop/diner that's like stepping back in time. Make sure to order their famous milkshake made with their homemade ice cream. Also, buy some of their homemade candy. It's a little bit silly.
Kansas City - Hereford House. Really good steaks. Just make sure to visit when one of your children won't come down with severe stomach pains in the middle of the meal. (pains only lasted 15-20 minutes, after which normal eating resumed)
New Mexico
Albuquerque - El Pinto. Great, great New Mexican cuisine. Also set in a beautiful location with nice atmosphere.
Santa Fe - Cafe Pasquals. Recommended by Janie, because she saw it on Rachael Ray's show. It was good though.
England
Wolvercote - Trout Inn. Great old restaurant that sits on the Thames river right outside of Oxford. Great food and even better atmosphere.
Random village England - The Joiners Arms. Restaurant that is raved about by Hannahbanana and Essiequard. Janie and I ate here this past summer when we were fortunate enough to meet up with Esther and Damien. Very good food. Hannah is not a liar.
